2019 Expedition

2019 Expedition

The 2019 expedition consisted of a small group who went out to Itala Foundation Community School, in August, with the specific aim of opening Cameron’s Orphanage and finishing off the Pre-School.

The group consisted of four ex pupils from Hurstpierpoint College who had been out on the 2018 Expedition and loved the experience so much they wanted to go again. Their contribution was invaluable, thank you Sylvie, Connie, Noah and Meredith.

Leading the expedition was Amanda, helped by James and Jill and we were very pleased to have Amanda’s daughter Naomi and her boyfriend Gwyn with us for the first time.

The exhibition consisted of two weeks on site and no other activity and we managed to achieve the following:

  • Completion of Cameron’s Orphanage which opened on the 29th August 2019
  • Completion of the Pre-School ready for the new term to take young siblings allowing older sisters to go to school
  • Putting up the water tower with electrics and feed from new solar powered electric pump. The water tower will feed the four new toilet blocks
  • Completion of first toilet block plumbing and drainage with the other three blocks about 70% complete.
  • New electrical circuits to all four existing classrooms plus fitting energy saving bulbs
  • Meeting with the District Education Board to discuss and agree on the future direction of the school
  • Meeting with Chief Chitina to thank him for providing the land and updating him on the progress of the school and orphanage
