Pfumvudza at Cam’s Orphanage

Pfumvudza at Cam’s orphanage

Now we have started growing maize the Pfumvudza way at our farm, it was decided that this would be a good skill to teach the children.

By coincidence we have a plot of land 16m by 39m just outside the orphanage, within the compound, where the children can be shown how to grow maize the Pfumvudza way.

Mr. Phiri, who we have employed at the farm, kindly volunteered to help show the children.

We have nominated Mischek as supervisor as he has shown aptitude and hard work in the garden, however everyone will learn. We expect this plot to grow enough food to feed the children Nshima for at least six  months, when ready next May.

You can read about the Pfumvudza method here Pfumvudza-2020 planting instruction

We started a little late as the rains had commenced, however I am sure we will still have time for a successful crop. Seeds where planted on December 17th and where already sprouting by Christmas day.
