Sarah at Cameron's orphanage

Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Chola.

I was born on 25th December 2011.

I came to the orphanage when it opened in December 2021. I was found living in a remote farmstead all alone with my elderly grandmother. I had never been to school as she had no money and wanted me to help her.

People think I’m shy, but I’m not, I’m just learning how to live with other children and adjusting to starting school. I am Itala Foundation School where I am working hard to catch up.

My favourite colour is pink. At the moment I think I’d like to be a nurse when I leave here, but there are so many things I do not know yet. I have never had toys until recently. I have just discovered colouring and drawing and I love to do that. I would like to draw colourful pictures all day long.

I have always wanted a baby to look after and a baby doll would be my favourite toy, that and a ball. I also love the swings in our garden. Because I am the eldest child in the orphanage I have to help the mamas. I am learning to cook and how to tend the vegetables in our garden. My favourite food is macaroni, but I have not tasted many foods. Every morning we eat a porridge made from ground maize called nshima. I am growing tall, my feet are already a size 39 and my waist is 25 inches. I sleep in a bunk bed on the top in a room with 3 other girls. We are all good friends.

We are having extra English lessons in the orphanage and I am learning well.
